Entry restrictions

Restrictions on the entry of foreigners and nationals

Pursuant to Ordinance No. 658/2021, the entry into the country of foreigners of any nationality, by highways or other land means or waterway transport, is restricted. Cruise ship and entry by air are authorized.

Regarding entry by means areas, the restrictions are as follows:

  • Flights to or from South Africa, India, Northern Ireland, and the United Kingdom are suspended.
  • Foreign travelers coming or passing through South Africa, India, Northern Ireland, or the United Kingdom in the last 14 days are not allowed to enter or transit through Brazil. This does not apply to: Brazilian nationals, passengers with a residence permit issued by spouses, partners, children, parents, or guardians of Brazilian nationals, provided they remain in quarantine for fourteen days
  • Travelers entering or transiting through Brazil (foreign or domestic) must have an RT-PCR test with a negative result performed no later than 72 hours before departure from the first boarding point. The test result must be presented to the airline in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.

About the entry of cruise ships by water:

  • The operation of vessels carrying travelers in national ports is subject to the prior edition of an Ordinance by the Ministry of Health, which may provide for the quarantine of travelers and vessels, according to the epidemiological scenario identified.
  • The operation of vessels carrying travelers is conditioned to the local execution of active epidemiological surveillance.

Entry restrictions do not apply to born or naturalized Brazilians; immigrants with permanent residence, for a fixed or indefinite term, in Brazilian territory; or foreigners who are spouse, partner, son, father or trustee of Brazilian, whose entry is specifically authorized by the Brazilian Government in view of the public interest or for humanitarian reasons; and carriers of National Migratory Registration (MRI).
